From concept to leadership: the history of the five years of Global City.

This July, it will be exactly five years since the Global City complex facility opening up in Karaganda City. During this time period, we have made a long way, and it is time to sum up the interim results. We started with an ambitious idea to create a space where businesses and consumers could meet and interact with each other. And today we are proud of the results achieved.

First, we managed to achieve our goals and today we can say: the first and so far the only trade and logistics cluster in Kazakhstan has come to be. The project matured long and difficult to hatch – who could have said a decade ago that a relatively new direction – warehouses and logistics – would “spud off” in Karaganda City? And now – make haste to see – a new “growth point” is flaunting itself on 86 hectares. We have become an important centre for local businesses, creating hundreds of jobs. We see how not only the number of our tenants is growing, but also the overall dynamics of the market so.

Amongst the significant achievements, it is also worth noting our active participation in social projects and events aimed at developing the local community. We continue to strive to improve the quality of life of city residents, providing them with comfortable conditions for shopping and leisure.

How did we get to this? It seems simple: Three Big Strides – Three Great Stages.

Stride One: we created a base for development. We built two shopping centres, several trade pavilions, a farm centre, our first four warehouses, a cargo terminal with a container site and railway dead ends, as well as a customs control area with a temporary storage warehouse. The times were difficult – the COVID-19 pandemic raged in 2020 and 2021, but we managed fill up the built infrastructure with businesses. It took us a year.

And then we dared to make a second stride – in 2021 we started and in a little over a year we built three more warehouses, and further on: having started in 2022, already in 2024 we put into operation a complex facility of ten warehouses at one go!

At the same time, the infrastructure of the cargo terminal was expanded – a railway ramp with three new dead ends and a hydraulic overpass was built. This made it possible to significantly increase the scopes of handling cargo arriving by rail up to 102 railway cars at one single time. Also, another two temporary storage warehouses were equipped at the cargo terminal – rail and road ones (including one for oversized cargo).

As they say, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step: since 2023 we have stepped into a new construction endeavour and by the beginning of 2025 we have opened the doors of the complex facility of seven more warehouses, and two new railway dead ends. Looking back, we understand that every stride along this path was important and contributed to our development. We are ready to face new challenges and will continue to work on improving the quality of services and the capacity of our complex facilities to meet the needs of the residents of Karaganda City and the residents of the Region.

It should be noted that warehouses without customers are just empty “boxes”. And here we want to say “Thank You!” to our “anchor” tenants. These are: The Teez, the first Kazakhstani marketplace operating on the concept of social e-commerce; The Metso, an international engineering concern; The Tengri Tyres, the first newest plant for the production of car tires in Kazakhstan; The ZAMMLER, an Ukrainian transport and logistics company, which is the main supplier of The KASPI Store; The Apple City Corps Trading Company, who are the official P&G (Procter & Gamble) distributors; The Estel, a Russian manufacturer of professional hair cosmetics; The Yashkino, a brand of The KDV Group, one of the largest Russian food holdings, etc.

Meanwhile, we are preparing for the next stride in the further development of the complex facility and are looking forward to future successes and joint work for the benefit of our Region.
